You missed the point of Mahkdoom Qureshi

Reader comment on item: Why Would Anyone Want to Blow Up Times Square?

Submitted by John W McGinley (United States), May 5, 2010 at 21:49

God forbid it would take a cataclysm. But I fear you are correct. And by and large the thrust of your article was both incisive and insightful. It needed to be articulated.

I suggest that, in the overall context of your article, your usage of what Mahkdoom Qureshi said was inccurate. Yes indeed, the twin cancers of denial and political correctness characterizes most of the reactions to the attempted bombing. But Qureshi's statement does not all in either of those categories.

On the contrary it is a rational statement of what very well could have been the motivation of the terrorist who attempted the bombing. Blowback and retaliation for the drone attacks run by the CIA in Pakistan. Especiallu the one which (might have) killed Meshud. The terrorist said as much. There is no condoning what the terrorist was attempting to do. That having been stipulated, Qureshi's remark is rational and certainly does not instantiate either denial or political correctness.
