Profiling?

Reader comment on item: Why Would Anyone Want to Blow Up Times Square?

Submitted by Mark D. (United States), May 8, 2010 at 20:55

--- I meant that such features of Western life as the ban on profiling and the assumption that all religions are inherently peaceful must be discarded if one is to confront the Islamist enemy, and we are reluctant to take those steps.----

Profiling? What is the argument against that?.

Because profiling falls within reason to me.

We have to turn a blind eye on people very unlikely or next to impossible to commit terrorism, unless something looks fishy.

At the same time, we have to focus like a laser on people very likely to commit terrorism, especially if there is something fishy.

Fair's fair. It's not anybody's guess who would terrorize.

If we don't profile, we do so at the expense of security, or at the expense a great many people dying.

And don't we know it.

Mark D.
