Just be glad he was in the US

Reader comment on item: Why Would Anyone Want to Blow Up Times Square?

Submitted by Vazir Mukhtar (United States), May 5, 2010 at 22:43

He was alone; not very sophisticated; he failed; he was caught; he will be tried; G-d willing, he will be found guilty.

Suppose he had been more than one. Suppose he had decided to act when ash from the Icelandic volcano closed virtually all European airports, stranding thousands of people in those airports. Suppose he had had an explosive device in a back pack that didn't go through a security check because no one was flying anywhere. Think of the havoc he could have caused at Heathrow, Schiphol, or Frankfurt.

He was stopped in New York because a street vendor was alert and because two policemen were nearby.

Just a reminder that the price of liberty (and life, one might add) is eternal vigilance.
