Reader comment on item: Why Revoke Tariq Ramadan's U.S. Visa?

Submitted by Mohammad Syed (United States), Sep 17, 2004 at 12:46

I appreciate the author's points regarding the Dr. Ramadan, however, there are better ways to deal with the situation .

Let's suppose for a moment that he IS a terrorist:

Wouldn't it be better to closely monitor him once here so that intelligence can be gathered on his contacts? I mean, I feel that a more serious threat comes from hard-liners who come here illegally. If nothing else, if he goes AWOL from Notre Dame, it would be really easy to track him.

I have not heard any of his lectures so I don't know what his "extreme" views might be, but I do feel that most people that have posted comments are quick to engage in group think based on very little facts. To give people only tidbits of information on anyone will definately lead to people froming prejudices. I think that as Americans, one of the things that makes our culture so great is that we're more willing to hear the testimony of both the accuser AND the defendant. I hope that we can do the same in this case. Does anyone have any access to his apparently dangerous lectures? I'd like to be a free-thinker and draw my own conclusions...
