What's goin' on at the State Dep't?

Reader comment on item: Why Revoke Tariq Ramadan's U.S. Visa?

Submitted by John W McGinley (United States), Aug 29, 2004 at 22:08

First, thank-you for the report. Untill I got to the end I figured that our Administration was finally getting its act together. So many American institutions -- particularly university -- seem to be in competition with each other to get affiliated with some person who is known and respected by Muslim groups of a certain character. These institutions are deathly afraid of what might be called "Uncle-Tomism" and accordingly they ignore Muslim voices who do not have at least some history of rhetoric supportive of Islamic terrorist activity.

Often, even this Administration has appeared to have this fear as well as evidenced by the groups and persons they honor and appoint to various commissions.

Your article started to give me hope that the Bush Administration was finally getting its act together on this. However, at the end, you noted the "end-run" being perpretrated by the State Department. What the hell is going on at the State Department? Does President Bush even have some degree of control over "Foggy bottom." This is a disgrace. Someone of note should bring this matter to the attention of the President.
