We Moderate Muslims Must Stop Living in Denial

Reader comment on item: [The Need to Name and] Know Thy Terrorists

I am an India born ,educated Muslim living in U.S.A. for over 35 years. I have studied islamic scriptures and history. I will not deny that the Quran promotes violence against non Muslims, and that history proves it. I feel that it is stupid to deny, lie, justify or defend something which is not acceptable by the standards of today's civilized world and human rights.

However, by far, a great majority of us, like me, believe in human rights, would not hurt a fly, let alone a human being with a different belief, consider all human beings equal and part of the human family regardless of their beliefs and have never tried to convert anybody. We work hard, stay away from criminal activities and drugs ( very few of us even drink), educate our children, boys and girls both, to the highest level of education they are capable of, have very strong family bonds and values and barring few exceptions, have intact marriages till death do us part.

Instead of denying , lying , justifying and defending wrongdoing like children -- something which is not defendable and justifyable -- we Muslims , at the very least the educated and enlightened ones living in the west, must accept what is bad, condemn it and promote what is good and follow it.
