Distinction made between Islam and Militant Islam

Reader comment on item: [The Need to Name and] Know Thy Terrorists

Mr. Pipes:

I still don't understand why you, President Bush and whoever else out there makes a distinction between Islam and Militant Islam... If the Islamic religion condones the slaughter of any person who doesn't want to convert to Islam, then why the distinction?

Any Muslim that decides to be dedicated to the teachings of the Quran and the Hadith cannot get around those verses that encourage forcing non-Muslims to recite the Shahada. For those so-called secularist Muslims who want to live double lives that is their choice, but the true heroes of Islam are the Al Qaeda and the Taliban because they are following the Islamic faith with all their hearts, minds, soul and strength. Some ... Muslims try to say that what Osama Bin Laden is doing does not reflect true Islam. I would like to know how a Muslim can stay true to their faith, while at the same time, ignoring their duty to spread the Islamic faith, with force, if necessary.

I'm by no means a scholar, but I am literate and have read the passages of the Quran and Hadith which condone violence, revenge and force.

The distinction between Islam and Militant Islam is faulty, because I believe there is none.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, '

one of your avid readers.
