Islamic Fundamentalism is the Real Enemy, not just Saddam

Reader comment on item: [The Need to Name and] Know Thy Terrorists

Submitted by Perry Goldstein (United States), Nov 19, 2002 at 12:41

I agree whole heartedly with your comments and agree that a distinction must be made between Islamic extremists, crazy dictators and the notion of the Islamic Jihad. I was interested to note the current debate among Islamic scholars surrounding the concept of a "spiritual Jihad" in the absence of military or terrorist tactics. I believe the western world is in the midst of a real military Jihad and we all need to consider what this means in our daily lives. The term or concept of Jihad cannot exist without the expressed goal of killing or silencing the infidels(non-believers) in the world.
