Balfour The Cynical ...

Reader comment on item: "Today Gaza, Tomorrow Jerusalem"

Contrary to Walter's sacred belief in the right of a Scottish-born bowler hatted Earl to decide the fate of Palestine and the borders of a Jewish State in 1917, the Balfour Declaration was made with the intention of winning the support of Jews (particulary in the USA) in the war against Germany and the the creation of a Jewish homeland in the Middle East for the protection of land and sea routes to India for the British Empire.

Balfour's map-making left a helluva lot to be desired, and he couldn't have cared less for the Jews as opposed to the needs of Britain.
Israel was created in 1948 with specific and delineated borders, and any land outside those borders claimed by either the State of Israel or Jewish settlers is nothing else but immoral, illegal and a travesty of all that the Jewish people have endured for centuries.
Hitler and his Nazi filth believed in lebensraum in the East for the Master Race, and now we have Jewish groups believing in the same thing, either because it was won by the gun or a God given right.
If one goes with historical precedent of the Jews regaining what was supposedly theirs two thousand years ago, I have no problem with the Italian army conquering Israel as per the Roman Empire or Neddy Nezer taking the Jews into bondage.
Just be thankful that there aren't any Cro-Magnon or Neanderthal tribes around to voice their claim to all what once was theirs, then you would be right outa luck.
You would send the Palestinians (or whatever name you wish to give them) on a diaspora for eternity, and have all of us suffer the murderous hatred of medieval Islam.
For millenia the Jewish people has given humanity such advances in medicine, philosophy, science, etc that is a marvel to the size of it's population, and now they have dragged themselves down to the same level as the absolutist mullahs and ayatollahs.
God, or perhaps Balfour in your wildest dreams, gave me these lands, and I will brutalize, murder and oppress anyone who denies me.
Israel exists within it's own borders, can defend itself and would have the USA as it's prime defender if it ever became under threat or attack.
It would also have the backing of the vast majority of the people in the Western democracies if it gave the Palestinians their own state.
Whether that state actually becomes decent is not my nor your concern, but it will surely end up being a brutal ignorant authoritarian state.
So what! Slap a wall around it and them stew.
Israel will still endure.
