Gaza Retreat Article

Reader comment on item: "Today Gaza, Tomorrow Jerusalem"

Submitted by John Schwartz (Germany), Aug 9, 2005 at 10:31

Hi Daniel,

You fail to address the alternative: doing nothing will not stop the extremists. What maintaining the status quo will do is reduce the chances of moderate Palestinians to zero. I am pro Israel but still believe that Israel has made mistakes. The ultimate solution is a border based on most of the 1967 War boundaries which will come later rather than sooner as long as both sides follow
leaders who espouse an extremist viewpoint.

I hold that the status quo is unsustainable and that withdrawing from Gaza allows Israel to better defend the land it still has. Is this not a legitimate policy?

John
