Dan, what You say is very sensible. These 1027 prisoners and there were women among them, are useless and their upkeep costs money. Most of their families live in shacks with no sanitation or running water or in overcrowded houses. For them Israeli air conditioned prisons are like health farms or luxury spas. I read the families of victims were upset to hear they were being released and my heart went to them. But I want to tell them not to feel bitter, because the cultural shock these prisoners will experience after years in posh prisons will be a real punishment for them, their families who'll have to absorb their fellow primates back and also their cash strapped "governement" who'll have to show a respectful and fitting wellcome back with some regular cash transfers every month. After all, they did what they did for their country.

The danger is they can now get false documents and come to Europe with the refugee flow from Syria. I don't know whether their details are available to the police worldwide but I highly doubt it. There was a case of an Afghan asylum seeker whose application was turned down and he killed somebody in Scandinavia so he can stay in prison and not be sent back.

Gilad Shalit was worth the effort. He was, at the time, the only French citizen held hostage. His parents were heartbroken and so was his young wife. He was abducted shortly after getting married. I remember the day he was released as if it was yesterday. I was travelling with my kids and heard the news at the airport. And so many people cried. It was unreal. Best wishes to his family.
