Forsaking principle and common sense

Reader comment on item: Gilad Shalit and Doing Business with Terrorists

Submitted by Albert Edelson (Israel), Oct 19, 2011 at 08:02

Dear Mr. Pipes,

As a veteran Israel Defense Force (IDF) Field Psychologist, (i.e. I work with soldiers in the field and not in an office at a desk). I am also one of your ldedicated readers. Thirty-five years of field work during both peace and war have taught me, (and the IDF), that a soldier's morale comes above all else. There is a direct connection between leaving a soldier in captivity or liberating him - on the morale and the attitude of our young soldiers and reservists. I find your value judgement: "Shame on them", on the release of Gilad to be ill-conceived and irrelevant. This is regretful and unnecessary. All the same, I thank you and appreciate your sincere concern.

Yours sincerely,

Albert Edelson, (Captain, IDF reserves)
