B"H ...while what you say seems reasonable, if one person does it admirably a hundred (and probably a lot more) will abuse it. And the law can't be bothered with scrutinizing every case of marriage to decide (often unfairly) who is admirable and who isn't, so it has to be forbidden to everyone. And NO Islam is far too barbaric to be the arbitator, especially since it could care less how badly a woman is treated.

Besides, see my post to AnneM for the Torah perspective, and how while the Torah permits, it doesn't encourage it. Not only that but the Rabbis forbade it to everyone roughly 1000 years ago because it was no longer possible for almost anyone to do it admirably any more. In short, while your reasoning sounds correct, human nature (aka - reality), and especially Muslim nature, says "you are dead wrong."
