Jews once had the option of polygamy, properly polygyny, but under the traditional rubric that "the law of the land is the law" unless it directly contravenes a Torah requirement or proscription, we adapted to our minority status and outlawed the practice in any Christian dominated area. Even in Israel, there is only one exception: a Jew who marries two women in a Moslem country will not be required to divorce one in the process of aliyah.

Mormons were chased out into the desert, and even in Utah, only the fringe dare defy the ban.

But apparently, noone can say "no" to Muslims, any more than we can say "speak English" to other immigrants.
