Reader comment on item: Appease Iran?

Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Sep 26, 2008 at 12:31

Appeasement should not be seen as the only way to fight an enemy, whether during a real battle or the present and insidious danger we are experiencing now, radical Islam and the threat of Iranian nuclear power. It is not sine qua non for winning the war against this deceitful enemy; quite the contrary, as Dr. Pipes wrote, "it must consciously be resisted . . .". It was nauseating and shameful that so-called "Christian" groups fawned over Ahmadinejad, wining and dining him during his visit to our country; I'm sure he sat there thinking, "Ah, I've really fooled them this time."

This only goes to show that our country is sadly divided about whom we support, and who our enemies really are. There is little difference between Ahmadinejad and Hitler, except for their nationalities. Otherwise, both have shown an obsessional desire for the destruction of the Jewish people, and also the ablitiy to fool some of the people some of the time, while the rest of us pull our out hair in frustration and disbelief. What Iran is trying to do is frightening enough, but the general lassitude and naiivity in this country is equally frightening, when it involves accepting appeasement as an easy way out rather than fighting and winning over evil.
