Reader comment on item: Appease Iran?

Submitted by Lynn (United States), Sep 26, 2008 at 12:06

I agree that it is impossible to appease a person, people or nation who wishes to wipe another off the face of the earth. It is possible to contain them for a time but with Iran the time seems too short as they very close to obtaining nuclear capabilities. I notice that there are those who keep trying to prove that the leaders of Iran really don't mean what they say and I also notice that the leaders of Iran gleefully keep them guessing.

There is a segment of the world who wants to kill another and are raising generations toward this goal. It is impossible to appease them when they are willing to send and teach others to commit suicide and murder others and who teach the adulation of this behavior. I think that appeasement assumes that the other party has the best interest of man and woman-kind in their mind and that is not the case with Iran and others. They try to spread the illusion that it is Israel and the West who are assaulting them but the their words and actions betray them.

I think that the world is expecting the impossible from the United States. We cannot and should not have to face these grave dangers alone so that other countries can languish about with inaction, benefit from our actions, and then bear no blame when things go wrong as they always do with human endeavors. While Russia and Iran and the others are busy making deals with each other we are fighting to keep the allies we have and fighting off criticisms and complaints that we never seem to do enough or do it right. The United States is NOT appeasing Iran, we are attempting to contain Iran and if someone has a better idea at this time speak up. Funny how when it comes time for action all the voices urging us on quickly are silent, and when the United States looks around their gone because their job now is to tell us everything we did wrong or how we could have done it better.
