Typical Moderate Muslim

Reader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity?

Submitted by N. Khan (United States), Dec 4, 2003 at 13:48

I am a so called moderate muslim. I have a muslim name, go to friday prayers, fast in Ramazan and give charity regularly. My islam stops here. I do not approve of quranic teachings of hatred and violence towards non muslims nor do I approve of prophet Mohammed's violent life style in his last 10 years. I think I am a typical western moderate muslim. I am more secular than most moderate muslims just for the reason that unlike most moderate muslims, I have studied quran and sunna and islamic history very critically (websites like "faithfreedom.org" and books by Ali Dashti, Ibn Warraq and Anwar Shaikh helped). Am I a moderate muslim like Dr Pipes may call me, or an infidel like Wahabi muslims will call me, you decide.
