Reader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity?

Submitted by Ed (United States), Nov 29, 2003 at 22:18

With my limited rereading into Islam and Wahhabism, I believe the qualifying questions raised are a good barometer to gauge militant leniency. Though I am a firm believer in the Bill of Rights and Constitution, the US and the West need to better understand the fatalistic worldview of cultures that have easy interpretation for for negating the secular worldview and the easy justification of spilling blood.

I have seen the Taliban ritual throat-cutting (qasas) as well as the trophy photographs of Chechen throat-cutting as well. And unfortuantely, I am prejudiced by my own observations of those brave souls that apparently thought that jumping from the top of WTC was better then being burned. I wish I could be more objective and apologise for my response.
