Great idea. . . But. . .

Reader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity?

Submitted by Lilith Paloma (United States), Nov 30, 2003 at 10:37

The questionnaire is a great idea. Unfortunately, I doubt that it will work. After all, it is perfectly acceptable for a Muslim to lie (taquieh) to protect Islam. It is also acceptable to break agreements with "Infidels"and Idolaters:

Surah: 009.001

YUSUFALI: A (declaration) of immunity from Allah and His Messenger, to those of the Pagans with whom ye have contracted mutual alliances:-
PICKTHAL: Freedom from obligation (is proclaimed) from Allah and His messenger toward those of the idolaters with whom ye made a treaty.
SHAKIR: (This is a declaration of) immunity by Allah and His Messenger towards those of the idolaters with whom you made an agreement.

Therefore, no matter what Muslims say, one may not be able to believe them. ...
Until there is a bona fide Reformation in Islam, one that repudiates the violent and bigoted passages in the Qu'ran against the "non-believer" and the Jews there will be no end to this conflict.

I fear none of us will ever live so long as to see an end to this war on Islamic terror.
