Global Goals of Islam

Reader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity?

Submitted by Fred Trinker (United States), Nov 28, 2003 at 18:37

Mr. Pipes,
I enjoy reading your articles.
Please author an article on the global aspirations of
Islam. I am refering to the religious aspirations. Is it
the ultimate goal of any true Muslim to convert (by many
means) all non-belivers to Islam ? I was told by a
Muslim (at an interfaith meeting) that true peace would
be achieved on Earth when all people were Muslims.
Isn't this tenet (forced or non-forced conversions) inconsistent
with religious tolerance, which, by the way, I hear time after
time attributed to Islam ?
I suppose what is written in Scriptures and what is practiced
are two separate concepts.
How do these concepts differ in Christianity and Judaism ?
Please discuss these topics sometime in the future.
Thanks,
Fred
