No such thing as Moderate Islam

Reader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity?

Submitted by Mona Abousenna (Egypt), Apr 10, 2004 at 07:29

The term "Moderate Islam" is a contradiction in terms. It is misleading and could result in false conclusions. Instead, Secular Islam could be more appropriate, although it does not exist either, but has to be created. Secularisation is the only way to achieve modernity, liberalism and democracy in Arab and Muslim societies. This is the task of the intellectuals!!!
