Is Muslim Modernity Possible?

Reader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity?

I agree 100% with your list of questions. It would truly reveal the modernized Muslim. However, if someone agreed to equal rights for women and non-Muslims, or accepted the laws of non-Muslims, or accepted all variations of Islam, etc, they wouldn't be Muslim. They would be a non-believer. If the Qur'an were truly the immutable will of Allah, and in fact revealed to Mohammed, it would be impossible for someone who beleived in it to compromise. If the Qur'an can be revised, then it is not the revealed will of Allah. If some of the Qur'an is not perfect, then it is a fraud. Mohammed even closed the door on another Prophet coming along and modernizing the Qur'an. Those who have tried to introduce rational thought have been flayed alive (Some literally).
