It will encourage terrorism worldwide

Reader comment on item: [The Gaza Withdrawal:] A Democracy Killing Itself

Submitted by Amitabh tripathi (India), Aug 16, 2005 at 05:29

It is really shocking to know that Government of Israel has taken this decision unilaterally. There was speculation everywhere about America's pressure behind all this. Why Ariel Sharon has taken this decision he knows well but he should also have kept in mind fact his country is ally in war against terrorism and Israel pull out from Gaza is not merely an internal matter of his country. It will affect war on terror, morale of countries fighting aginst terrorism.

Islamists world over will take it as their victory and their intellectual supporters wil start campaign in favour of giving concessions to fundamentalis to get them away from terrorism.Due to this unneccessarily debate on terrorism will get new twist. In every democracy there is school of thought not in favour of cracking down against fundamentalists. This decision will encourage this school of thought and those democracies fighting against terrorism feel some difficulty.

Democracy like India which find it so difficult in making balance between Arab and Israel will get them on receiving end while preparing themselves for war on terror.Because of muslim appeasement policy of Indian political system it took so long period before establishing diplomatic relationship with Israel. Some groups in India terms Israel as role model in fighting against terrorism but Israeli pull down from Gaza will compell them also to follow the concession policy for fundamenyalists.

This decision of Israel will affect European countries and England in particular. These days England is giving an example to the whole world how terrorism should be dealt by a state. This latest decision will encourage those groups in England who are in favour of appeasing muslims to get them away from terrorism.

It is hard to say but Ariel sharon has shown weakness for which other countries have also to pay.If some body think he can end terrorism by appeasing fundamentalists then nothing can be said about his thought. If once Israel will evacuate Gaza it has to leave whole of Israel tomorrow. With this success Islamists will apply same formula in America,Europe,Asia. They will demand every democracy to evacuate their native lands. This not only problem of Israel, tomorrow every democracy will face this very problem.
