Israel has no interest in Mecca

Reader comment on item: The Muslim Claim to Jerusalem
in response to reader comment: Jews and Christian's claim on Mecca

Submitted by Michael S (United States), May 31, 2015 at 04:11

Abdullah, King of Jordan, probably has the best claim on Mecca. Israel might find it advantageous to back the Jordanian Hashemite Dynasty if there were a power struggle over Mecca; otherwise, Israel has nothing to gain there. The claim that Abraham built the Kabaa is probably spurious. Even so, he is claimed by Arabs and Jews alike as an ancestor; and both groups have a valid Biblical claim.

Other possible candidates (besides the Hashemites) to control Mecca are (obviously) the Saudis, the Egyptians, the "Islamic State", the Turks and probably others.
