Highly informative and sorely needed

The article is very readable and provides much needed background information about Islam's relations with Jerusalem, both religious and political. I missed reading about the destruction of the Jewish synagogues after 1948. The reason I believe it is important is that it emphasizes the Muslim historical animosity to the Jewish and Christian religions and their habit of destroying and at best preventing the upkeep of their places of worship. It is, I believe, an integral part of the history of the city.
