Reader comment on item: The Muslim Claim to Jerusalem
in response to reader comment: Oh, I forgot something: Hindu's claim on Kaaba

HI, Prashant. You said,

"if we allow for a couple of typos. By Muslim's own admission, Abraham, that is Brahma, created Kaaba and Mecca."

At times, I've wondered if I've been pushing the envelope, talking so much about the Bible on this site. The Bible is inexorably connected with the Jewish people, with their claim on Israel and with Zionism; so there's a continuum of discussion between Biblical religion and Israeli politics. Now, with your "Brahma =? Abraham", you've even brought Hinduism on board! !

Yes, one could be a superficial connection between the two words, if Sanskrit were similar to Hebrew. Hebrew, after all, is based on consonants only, so one could guess that the root words in both cases were "BRHM". "Abraham", in Hebrew, though, is אברהם, or "ABRHM" in English transliteration. The "A" doesn't represent a vowel as it does in English, but signifies an initial glottal stop -- treated in Hebrew as though it were a consonant. ABRHM consists, then, of "AB" and "RHM". "AB" means "Father"; but there seems to be speculation about the otherwise unused word, "RHM".

All I can make of "Brahma", or ब्रह्म in Sanskrit, is ब्र = "Ba"; ह्म = "Rahma??" You've got me guessing.

Does "Ba" have a meaning anywhere approaching "father" in Sanskrit? "Father" seems to be पिता, which I guess is "Pitri" -- akin to the Latin "Pater", not "Ba". I just don't see any connection; but then, I know little Hebrew, no Sanskrit whatever, and "Who has to make sense in this business?" If the Hindus want Mecca, I won't try to stop them!

I can't see India anywhere in Bible prophecy; except for mention in some places of "all nations" (which obviously includes India). The Indians don't need to feel bad about this, though; being mentioned in Bible prophecy is usually not a good thing.

Thanks for your post, which got me doing some lookups. It helps me ward off Alzheimer's, I think.
