Terrorism works on an economic level too

Reader comment on item: The Limits of Terrorism

Submitted by Stas (Ukraine), Jun 4, 2012 at 06:13

It is possible that terror attacks, other than creating terror in the minds of the citizens of a community, are not as effective as a political or other tactic to achieve Islamist goals, but the fact remains that the attacks have been stupendously effective in their economic impact on the west, and the USA in particular. I wonder if anyone has run a report on how many millions/billions are being spent on upgrades, security measures, identity checks, etc that are being implemented and will continue to be, as long as terrorists can even attempt an attack. Not to mention the effect on world markets, on the airline industries and other economic casualties.
