Are sufis really Islamic?Reader comment on item: The Limits of Terrorism Submitted by B.N.Gururaj (India), May 13, 2009 at 10:43 Javed, It is indeed doubtful whether Sufis, I mean the true Sufis and not the ones who masquarade as Sufis are really Islamic. What is Islamic about them, except that by accident of birth, they are muslims? Islam expects the believers to adopt five pillars of Islam. Is that sufficient to become a Sufi? What happened to Mansur Hallaj for declaring "An al Haq"? He was stoned to death. I think early sufis actually belong to Arab paganism. Their devotional fervour does not come from Islam or its traditions and scripture. In all the aggression committed by the Islamists in the history the so-called Sufis have egged on the Ghazis to commit murder, mayhem, and rapine. These Sufis have either preceded the Muslims armies, or have followed victorious muslim armies like locusts. Perhaps, only these sufis are truly Islamic.
