Reader comment on item: Niqabs and Burqas as Security Threats

Submitted by Australian Realist (Australia), Jan 28, 2009 at 21:00

The proposed Hijab/ Burqa ban, while a reasonable security concern, is just another example of Australians having to find legitimate ways to raise the immigration and Muslim non-integration issue in public discourse without being labeled ‘racist'… lets address the real issue here.

Countless Australians are fed up with minority groups, academics, socialists and leftwing media streams pushing their unrealistic ‘multiculturalist' agenda. The truth is if you walk into any shopping centre, university or other public place there are non-Western immigrants everywhere – mostly Asians and Arab Muslims, and now we are seeing a rise in the number of African immigrants (Somalian/ Sudanese). Our taxi drivers are all immigrants – African, Indian and Middle Eastern… their English is poor and they expect you to give them directions to your chosen destination.

Police are unofficially commenting with regard to African crime and brutality, while ‘officially' there is no problem at all. Our post offices, gas stations and other institutions servicing public needs employ mainly persons of African, Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern origin. Whole suburbs are full of single ethnic populations. Schools are hesitant to allow Christmas carols to be sung to avoid offending persons of other religious denominations. Any display of Australian patriotism or culture is branded at best as insensitive or at worse downright offensive to other races/ religions. It is political correctness gone mad… ‘Asylum seekers' released into the community have better conditions & financial support than our pensioners who have paid tax and supported the country's economic infrastructure their whole lives. Its not that we aren't tolerant of other nationalities… in the name of tolerance, we have lost our rights. We are simply inundated with immigrants and have had enough of ‘multiculturalism' being pushed upon us.

The problem is - if anyone dare raise the real issues we face, both short term and long term (and of which we are already seeing) such as crime, ethnic tensions, terrorism and not to mention cultural genocide – we are simply labeled ‘racists', ‘bogans', ‘intolerant' or ‘xenophobic'. The media & government quickly condemns the ‘offensive comments', preaches tolerance and understanding, and then suppresses the issue to appease religious & community leaders (Muslims)… what the media fail to report on is the intimidation and threats directed at those that speak out. Michael Smith (the radio presenter who called for the hijab ban in security environments) received death threats, however this was not as readily publicised. Mr Smith should be awarded some type of bravery award for having the courage to raise the issue of the Hijab albeit a guise for the immigration debate.

Reality bites. Cultural tensions are simmering. The Lebanese Muslim community in Sydney have clashed with Anglo-Australians on more than one occasion in ongoing cultural violence. There were the Sydney gang rapes. We witnessed the Cronulla riots of 2005, and just this week (Australia Day) there have been more ‘brawls' between Anglo-Australian ‘thugs and racists' and ‘youths' of ‘Middle Eastern Appearance' in the states of NSW and QLD... Unfortunately these type of incidents are only going to worsen, both in nature and frequency. Leftwing socialists, academics and the like – take off your rose-coloured glasses and start standing by your own countrymen.
