Reader comment on item: Must Counterinsurgency Wars Fail?

War in the context of the title of Daniel Pipes essay is, as he concludes, a never ending conflict. The solution to this problem is recognition that war, including the events noted, is an armed conflict between nations. Identifying the nation that is the primary enemy is the first step to victory. Waging war that destroys the agressors ability to fight and his will to fight is the necessary action to acheive victory. General Sherman's march from Atlanta to the sea, general Lemay's fire bombing of Tokyo, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, carpet bombing of German cities including the devestation of Dresden and Berlin ended those wars with victory for the innocent.

Iran is the primary enemy in America's and Israel's war of self defense. Retaliation of the magnitude sufficient to end this war with victory is easily within our capability with a minimum of loss of innocent American and Israeli lives. Just as the end of the American civil war and the end of WW ll saved lives in the Confederacy and in Germany and Japan such a war now would save lives in the agressor nation. Morally those benfits to an agressor nation are not our concern. The loss of the lives in the agressor nations was and is the responsibility of the agressors.

Victory is wittin our grasp. The missing ingredient is the identification of the morality of our cause and the necessary actions to acheive it.
