A realistic answer.Reader comment on item: Must Counterinsurgency Wars Fail? Submitted by Anne-Marie Delcambre (France), Sep 14, 2008 at 07:26 " Counterinsurgency wars are winnable, but they have their own imperatives, ones very distinct from those of conventional warfare." I believe Daniel Pipes to be right. Victory over insurgencies is possible if counterterrorist operations are followed. He calls the result "sufficient control", requiring the investment of continuous effort to preserve "repressed quiet". I would call that : "a realistic answer". Force is not the answer and Daniel Pipes finds a way of making the area safe. A state fighting a nonstate enemy , the state is not doomed to fail ! Counterinsurgency can win !
