Much simplerReader comment on item: Must Counterinsurgency Wars Fail? Submitted by Stuart Teich (United States), Sep 14, 2008 at 17:08 Let's be clear, this is a response to Dr. Pipes' elegant, sophisticated argument, and has no connection to it or him. War is about death and money. We have the technology to win nearly any war. All we lack are ruthlessness and resolve. When the Lower Fredonian Liberation Front crosses the Slobovian border to wreak insurgent havoc, we must ask two questions: 1) Are we willing to kill every man, woman, child, cripple, zombie, eunuch, dingbat, dimwit, ...and doofus in any way connected to the "insurgents"? If not, the flowchart peters out between squares marked "Why the not?" and "Well, shut up, then." 2) How will we pay for the relocation and rehabilitation of the "good" Fredonians and Slobovians from the region of devastation? If we haven't figured that one out, our reentry strategy (to humanity, after we bomb the Scrofulous Oblong region between Fredonia and Slobovia so intensively the dirt achieves orbit) needs work.
