Oh people of the Book (Bible) and of the Quran...

Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

Submitted by Abdulmalik Tijani (United States), Jun 16, 2008 at 04:29

Dear Dhimmi no more and others,

What the Quran says is that every prophet from God, including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, the Messiah taught Islam; it teaches that The name Muslim was the original name of the people who practiced what the prophets taught . Islam means submission and obedience to the Will of God, who is the author of peace.

If you know Arabic and know the Qur'an , as you say, you know that God says that nothing new was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was ordered by God to follow the way (millat) of Abraham. Both the bible and the Qur'an say that there is no change in the way of God. God's religion has always been sbmission and obediance to His Will, as revealed by His prophets by progressive revelation, which may have updated and discarded non-applicable forms of rituals and civic laws, but never contradicted the essence of the principles of Islam.

It was the Prophet who said that every child is born Muslim and that the parents are the ones who change their religion. You can find this in Bukhari and In the Sahih Muslim Ahadith.

If every child is born Muslim, all non-muslims are apostates, according to the reasoning of the non-thinking Muslims who claim that Obama is a muslim apostate. I suggest that such people rid their hearts of hatred and ungodly thoughts such as this and become concern about the state of their own souls on the day of judgment when they stand before Allah, God to answer for their own deeds and what was in their own hearts. during their earthly life.

This debate is absurd and hateful! Many of the comments disrespect Christ and the Prophet, Peace be upon them. Islam is being slandered without a rational defense or sound argument. Generalizations and irrational conclusions based upon faulty premises are being flung into the face of the innocent readers.

Please, beware of the seeds of hatred and division that are being cast upon this web page. Christians are expected to be Christ-like, and Muslims are expected to remember and practice the guidance offered by Allah ta ala in the Qur'an. As an African American Muslim, I am insulted by the implications that a Muslim cannot be an American and cannot expect to make progress in all areas of American life.

To be truly considered as a Muslim, in the present day understanding of Islam, one has to make a declaration that there is but one God and that Muhammad is His Prophet. This declaration is void if the person does believe this in his or heart. Has Obama ever done this? Being born Muslim, as mentioned by the Prophet is metaphysical; I am referring to the concept of being Muslim in a practical sense.

Christians have a lot to learn about Muhammad, and Muslims have a lot to learn about Jesus.

Stop the Hate!
