Judge Mr. Obama for who he is and what he does

Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?
in response to reader comment: Why?

Mr. Obama has made it perfectly clear he does not view himself as a Muslim. That, frankly, is all there is to it. Why on earth would it matter one inch what other religions think of the man? I'm a Christian. I believe in Christ and I follow his teachings. If tomorrow say a Buddihist walked up to me and annouced to me that he thinks I would make a good Buddihist and will always think of me as a Buddihist, am I supposed to follow Budda? Come off it, folks. Obama is a Christian. Simple, straight-forward. There no way to twist the facts around to make him into something else. His faith is his faith, and his faith goes to Jesus Christ.

Of course, what's more alarming and truly disgusting is this unspoken belief behind all these rumors that being a Muslim is wrong. Yes, terrorists are horrible backward sub-human monsters. No one's arguing with that. But the faith of Islam is does not go hand in hand with terrorism, no more than I being a Christian would mean I believe in the doctrines of psychopaths like David Koresh or some equally demented fool who takes the Christian faith and warps its teachings into something to abuse for his own ends.

We live in a free society, and yet an alarming number of people seem to think "freedom" means you have to share the exact same faith. The very fact that circulating this myth about Obama's faith could count as a strike against him is sickening. In a truly free society, your personal faith should not matter nearly as much as your political ideals or simply your character as a human being. And Mr. Obama loves this country, and will fight to defend it from its enemies. Calling him a Muslim is in and of itself is a lie, but what makes it truly disgusting is this notion that such a thing even matters in our society. We are a nation that gurantees our right to believe in any faith we choose. We shouldn't be subjecting our leaders to a hypocritical double-standard of our American values. Judge Mr. Obama for who he is and what he does.
