The official statistics, that to some degree approximates an answer that question, can be found here:

This is what I found out: 24990 people who left Sweden were Swedish citizens. That's about half of the total who left Sweden. 19769 were born in Sweden. That's close to 40 %.

So my best guess is, that most of the people who weren't born in Sweden (the 60 %), left to live in their country of citizenship or birth. Why ? Well, they finished their studies, job contract expired, they divorced a Swedish spouse, wanted to spend their retirement years in their home country etc.

What about the 19769 ? Why did they leave ? Well.. to study, work or marry in a foreign country, mainly. Or to live in a country with less hefty taxes. Some of them, even if they were born in Sweden, are not Swedish by ethnicity, so they probably left to live among their ethnic group, for a while or permanently.

So how many left because of the state of immigration in Sweden ? Hard to say ... 500 ? 1000 ? 2000 ? So are we witnessing a mass exodus here ? Certainly not. The early beginnings of a trend ? Maybe ...

You can search the database for your self. Here's a translation of some of the words on the query form:

födelseland = country of citizenship
kön = gender

Invandrare = immigrant
Utvandrare = emigrant

män = men
kvinnor = women
