Reader comment on item: Europeans Fleeing Eurabia

Submitted by Niels (Spain), Jul 14, 2006 at 11:41

After reading the updates on numbers & trends of emigrees I am wondering if it has been taken into account that the last years many Dutchmen, as well as other EU nationalities, have profited from the fact that mobility of EU citizens is being actively encouraged between the member states. I, for one, have moved from The Netherlands to Spain, and it hardly costed me any time or hassle to get my things arranged here, and many people I know here also have made this step encouraged by the relative ease of the trajectory.

ArenĀ“t there any numbers available of native europeans emigrating to lands beyond europe for the reasons mentioned in the article? It would be very interesting if a reader has some solid stats to post on that.

I should also mention certain Dutchmen have long been emigrating to for example Canada for very clear reasons, notably agriculturists for whom there is no space left in tiny overcrowded Holland..this has nothing to do with increasing security doubts. Also, I have recently read many emigrants do eventually return(as I will surely do one day).

Well, before being called an apologist, I subscribe to the view people in general do tend to feel less secure,as is probably going to be evident in election results across europe in the near future (parties like the aforementioned Vlaams Belang for example)..
