Reader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity?

Submitted by Nicholas G. Wion (United States), Nov 29, 2003 at 00:24

Some of these questions, such as the view of the validity of other religions, seem to state that a muslim must renounce Islam in order to speak for it.

Christianity does not recognize other religions as valid, "... no man goes to the Father exept through me" does not leave much room for debate.

And considering just how many Christian missionarys come from America, and that one of the things we are fighting for is the safety of such missionaries, it would seem hypocritical to comdemn a muslim goal for the islamification of America.

The goal we should have is not to tell muslims what thier religion means, or what it says. Now I myself am a Christian and completely disagree with islam, but our only goal right now should be to encourage a view within the muslim world that when our religions collide it sould be a battle fought with perrsuasive words to the heart and nourishing food for the mind, not a coersive gun to the head and an iron boot to the back.
