aren't we forgetting somethingReader comment on item: [Finding Moderate Muslims:] Do you believe in modernity? Submitted by mark leci (Canada), Dec 1, 2003 at 11:28 Firstly, YES there are many non-islamic, and even non-religious terrorist organisations. Remember the IRA? Or the Basque separatist movement ETA? Need I go on? The main reason that islamic terrorist cells are so prominent is that Islam is the second largest religion after christianity.Would you say that a moderate jew is one who takes the torah with a grain of salt? I know many jews who would be very offended by such a suggestion, which essentially labels all orthodox jews as extremists, including my own parents. Maybe it's better to go the other way and say that a religious extremist is one who takes the texts too literally, or interprets them in a way that was obviously not intended Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
