Mr. Pipes is right in saying that solving the Israel-Palestinian problem will not solve more than this specific problem. Many people in the West and Middle East believe that the Israeli-Palestinian problem is the main cause for all world terrorism and the source of jihad.

The truth is different. The main problem is deeply rooted in the Middle East dominant religion and hostility between various versions of Islam.

For example, the Shiite, Sunnis mutual hostility has nothing to do with Israel. Even if Israel moves to the moon, Shiites and Sunnis will be cutting their throats for as long as Islam is the dominant religion. Unfortunately for the world, fighting irrational faith is a very long process and it may take centuries to modify Islam and disconnect it from politics and military .

Communism and fascism were easier to combat .German and Soviet troops did not commit massive suicides to kill enemies .They did not want to be martyrs and go to the Quran promised pardise . Islamism is a new kind of enemy and it will take time for the West to understand how to win the battle.
