Non-ME state that is also facing extinctionReader comment on item: Countries Threatened with Extinction Submitted by John Hadjisky (United States), Aug 7, 2007 at 18:38 Quoting from the article: "The existence of this quintet of endangered Middle Eastern states prompts several thoughts. First, their predicament points to the uniquely vicious, volatile, and high-stakes quality of political life in this region..." No argument there! "...so far as I know, there is no state outside the Middle East whose very survival is in doubt." The context of this statement is the ongoing threats to ME states, threats that have been ongoing as far back as 1926 in the case of Lebanon. I would argue at the very least, Ukraine, and the Baltic three (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) are states whose very survival is in doubt. Probably you could include other former Soviet states (Belarus? Georgia?) in that category. Then there's Africa...there are probably some that qualify in Asia too. ...
