IRAN-SYRIA ALLIANCE IS A DEADLY THREAT TO ISRAEL

Dear Dr. Pipes,

Your suggestion that the Arab-Israeli conflict is a specific one to be solved, without any impact on other threatened countries of the Middle East, looks to me very true. The present situation in that region, specifically the civil war going on in Iraq and the politics of Iran, could lead to major changes on the region's maps. But all major powers are not interested in the change of the post-colonial shape of these countries. Simply, because any change would bring about serious and long-lasting conflicts. This is also the main reason to keep Iraq one, though some analysts anticipate a possible split of Iraq into two, three or more separate states.

The situation of Israel is different. While the Israeli government and military force is able to control the adjoining Palestinian Arab territories, the mounting threat against Israel comes from an alliance of Syria and Iran, the two states unleashing terrorist organizations against the Jewish State. In the light of analyses I have read recently, Russia and China are arming Syria and Iran. There is no match for the IDF force so far but this situation might change in the future.

Therefore, a neutralization of the outside threat is much more important for Israel than the conflict with local Arabs, whose quasi-state is in a complete disarray. Lebanon was used as a bridge-head to fight Israel. It might be used again. Israel deserves a much more efficient government and a national unity better than ever before.
