Debating with the Devil

Reader comment on item: Debate in London: Radical Islam vs. Civilization
in response to reader comment: The koran

From George W Bush to Noam Chomsky, the distinction between radical Islamism and Islam itself dominates this debate as a recieved truth. In the case of the former (Dubya) it might only be an ill advised deception intended to avoid threatening the bulk of the Islamic world whilst fighting our most immediate enemies. The putrid pool that spawns the terrorists mohammedism remains effectively inviolate whilst the US engages in its military hedge trimming. To state an apt analogy the Koran is like the Black Cauldron in the Lloyd Alexander novel of the same name. It produces through indoctrination and its practice of polygamy endless legions of angry young men keen to throw their lives at the only creatures they are told are more wretched than they. The infidels.

Add to this the useful idiots, Georg Lukas indoctrinated left wing anti western fools, and you have a lethal mix which harkens of a civilisational downfall the likes of which as not been seen since the rape of Constantinople, except this time it is happening all over the western world. See the blood mad howls of the anti American buffoons that toady to the neoMarxist mayor of London upon the mere truncated suggestion that Dr Pipes might agree with their anti American nonsense.

This is the entire arts community. This is the content that you will see in major Hollywood films: Syriana, V for Vendetta, Munich, and documentaries like Farenheit 9/11. As Dr Pipes says they are the "we have seen the enemy and the enemy is us" crew. Welcome to the 21st century and it appears to be in the west at least very much a product of the 1960s.

The resisters are proud but few. How can we argue? How can we debate? How can we even begin to change our respective jurisdictions when there is not enough agreed upon reality to even hold a conversation? Like Martin Luther and his endless schizophrenic debates with the Devil we are fighting for what seems to be a lost cause. Perhaps what we need is another major terrorist attack to awaken us to the nature of this multilateral threat that we face. Counter terrorism seems pointless in this environment it is like playing a goal keeper in a soccer match where your team has no other players on the field and your enemy with a full team is allowed free reign to shoot for goals for the duration of the match. The best though least likely outcome is a draw.

I agree with gellin & infidellin. The problem is Islam. Just because it changes tactics from massive assaults using huge armies to tiny infiltrations using modern gadgetry to fight wars, just because it uses modern media to spew its vile hatred across all four corners of the world and more succinctly just because it uses modern means to spew forth and further its premodern message and mission doesn't make it some new form of facism. Islamism is Islam as it was practiced and always will be practiced until god willing it is identified as the true threat and subjected to the same treatment it is dishing out to everyone else.
