Reader comment on item: What If the United States Had Not Invaded Iraq
in response to reader comment: Invasion of Iraq - opportunity, not a goal

I totally agree with Boris. If the fight hadn't been continued beyond the Iraqi border, does anyone believe that peace would have reigned in the area and that Saddam would have returned to Baghdad and enjoyed a well-deserved retirement? Once a megalomaniac , always a megalomaniac!

Sure, we've lost almost 3,000 of our boys and girls, but let's not denigrate their sacrifices! More and more 9/11s would have occurred right in the heart of the homeland if not for such heroes, so let's be thankful the war is being carried out somewhere else.

Of course, the Bush administration can't come out and say those very words, but that's what was behind the US strategy. Better to fight in someone else's backyard than our own. Not a very diplomatic way of putting it, but that is the nitty-gritty.

As Boris said, it's a global conflict, and the sooner our politicians stop praising the merits of Islam and recognize Islam for what it really is -- a terrorist organization -- the better it will be for all concerned. President Reagan had the guts to stand up to communism and lived to see its demise. The danger now is Islam, which, through liberal immigration and oft-touted multiculturism, has been allowed to contaminate our country, and, in fact, most of the West. No other immigrant group has had such a negative impact in so short a time.

When will our politicians come to their senses? There are few cities in the US that do not boast several mosques spouting hatred for anyone not a Muslim. Sure, there are moderates among Muslims, but should the Islamofascists win greater recognition and end up ruling our lives (a distinct possibility), they, too, will jump on the bandwagon of opportunity and claim their share of the spoils. Farfetched? We ignore this very real threat at our peril!
