What makes you think USA succeeded militarily?

Reader comment on item: What If the United States Had Not Invaded Iraq

I beg to differ with the author when he says "The Bush administration succeeded militarily but failed politically." It is altogether a different issue if the ever so apparent personal vendetta of the Bushes against Saddam Hussain is being used as a synonym for the claimed success. You do not put the lives of millions of Iraqis and thousands of US and British troops at risk for settling your personal scores. There is no substance in your claim when you say that the world is a better place with Saddam Hussain locked up. A better answer would be placed by the families of thousands of Iraqis who have lost their lives in the present conflict, who would have definitely been alive had not the invasion taken place. Why not ask the same to the families of those young soldiers who have laid down their lives to a war which was neither theirs' nor their countries'. The world would indeed be a much better place devoid of the bullying of USA and the "i dont care about the world" attitude of the american people who voted the war mongers back into power.
The military endeavour of USA and its allies has been a misreable mistake like Vietnam or maybe even worse. It is high time that the american people rose to the realities of the blunders made by their government and the policy makers.
