Is the Nation of Islam Muslim?

in response to reader comment: Is the Nation of Islam Muslim?

Submitted by Rafi Baig (United Kingdom), Nov 8, 2006 at 05:56

I am muslim and having done a bit of research into the Nation of Islam it is very clear that they are not Muslims. I accept that outwardly they appear as muslims and they may live their lives in what can be described as an islamic way, however, they cannot be said to be muslim for the following reason...

It is a central tenet in Islam that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the LAST of the messengers, after him there will be NO others. Anyone who claims another messenger AFTER him is not a muslim... this is written in the Qu'ran.

By claiming their founders to be 'divine messengers' i.e. prophets, the Nation of Islam have fallen foul of this fundamental requirement of Islam - thus they cannot be muslim.

A pity, but that's they way it is.
