ok dude, let's see how many prisons in US, and how many cons are there. they were sentenced for some crimes. can you guarantee that they will be "a good guy" when they are out? i doubt that. government put them in a prison so they can "think clearly" when they are in prisons.i myself don't see most of them really "think clearly". some of them don't even feel guilty once they are in prisons

the most effective way to prevent the crimes happen again is by giving the heavy sentences. it also will be effective to prevent the same crimes committed by other people, because they know that there will be punishment for them if they do that. however, talking about death sentence in islam, we don't do it that easy. the hakim (judge) needs to consider a lot of things before deciding someone deserves that kind of sentence or not.
