Cab drivers who discriminate against passengers with bottles of alcohol

Reader comment on item: No Islamic Law in Minnesota, for Now

Submitted by Henry Alkin (Canada), Oct 17, 2006 at 09:18

Dear Dr.Pipes

I have been following your correspondence on his matter and hasten to add my voice.

Whilst the current question has not arisen in Canada other matters have raised their heads. The desire of Muslims to have Shari'a law entered into the law of Canada, in respect of the rights of women in particular is of great concern to Muslim women, who would like to become liberated.

This is only a first move as in the case of the 'taxis of Minnesota'

When immigrants come to a foreign country they should be made aware that firstly they are totally subject to the laws of the land. Should this not be suitable, then their option is to stay 'from whence they came'

I have seen women in stores shopping with the hajib (head covering) and on occasion even with the 'burqa'. (Head Covering with slits for eyes) Whilst these customs are fine in the countries that have Shari'a law, they are frowned upon in western society.

I applaud you for taking a stand and look forward to your continued surveillance.

Sincerely

HenryAlkin
