Muslims need to be told to discipline themselves

Reader comment on item: A Muhammad Cartoon a Day

Dear Dr Pipes,

A professor in Minnesota was fired because he showed a picture of Muhammad in his class (Ref1). The professor was fired after Muslim students complained about the picture being shown.

Muslims of the world need to be told that they are not allowed to control the world. If they do not want to draw pictures of Muhammad and display them in their living room, it is there choice. But, if I want to display Muhammad in my livingroom or classroom for some reason or no reason, it is not Muslim people's prerogative to stop me from doing so. There only option is to close their eyes or look the other way.

Non-Muslims have no obligation to follow any islamic command that does not agree with non-Muslim people's agreed code of behavior. If I want to draw a painting depectung Muhammad ordering a massacre or Muhammad ordering adult breast feeding or Muhammad marrying his adopted son's wife, I should be allowed to do so.

If I want to make a temple for Muhammad and build his statue to pray to it, I should not be prohibited from doing so.
