in response to reader comment: ...And what about all non-Muslims?

You as well as Dr. Pipes are laboring under a false assumption: you mistakenly believe that the West can somehow "improve" the thinking and actions of Moslems and their respective foreign governments. This is nothing but a version of the old White Man's Burden, skewed to accommodate a progressive outlook.

Thus you deliberately miss the main point, which is that in order to defend traditional Western Civilization, Western governments should separate themselves as much as possible from an ... ideology called Islam. The general response to the secondary issues you raise is that the idiocy of private citizens who take it upon themselves to become Moslems or dhimmis in a Moslem country is nobody's problem but theirs.

Such people set themselves up for inevitable tragedy of one kind or another. It is solely a matter of individual responsibility, and not the feminized mindset about a society catering to hurt feelings. The craven and dangerously stupid attempts to anesthetize Moslems from their inherent beliefs has been proven incorrect so many times that those who do it must be living in the narrative-driven fantasyland of either a progressive or a neocon to believe otherwise.
