One Muhamad Cartoon a Day

Dear Dr Pipes:

The more I am thinking about your call for one Muhammad cartoon a day, the more I see the wisdom and brilliance in that. No, I do not want to mock Islam. Far from it. I think free criticism of Islamic doctrines and practices will benefit every body. I think there is anger on both sides of the fence. Non-muslims feel angry because they cannot freely express their opinions about Islam. The pedestal on which the entire body of Islamic thought --religious, social, economic, political, and military-- is artificially placed causes a lot or resentment toward Islam among non-Muslims.

On the Islamic side, the burden to defend every aspect of Islamic life under all circumstances, is just too much of a burden to be put on ordinary human beings. One Muhammad cartoon a day will desensitize the Islamic psyche and break this vicious circle of one party mocking what is beyond reach but should not be and other defending it more than it should be.
